GGFA DNA Project / Re: GedMatch is Accepting Uploads Again
« Last post by ggfaAdmin on August 17, 2013, 08:34:43 AM »
I agree that GedMatch is a helpful tool.   I see a lot of "matches" in my one-to-many comparisons.   I am still learning how to interpret by results.  I see that I can sort my comparisons by length of longest matching segment.   My question:  is there a threshold length at which a match is particularly significant?  It appears that my closest match  has a total of 45.5 cM with the largest segment of 31.5.
Do you have any links to suggest for those of us who would like to learn more?
GGFA DNA Project / GedMatch is Accepting Uploads Again

Testing of autosomal DNA has exploded over the last year. Of course, males and females are eligible for this test, so there's twice as many potential candidates as for the Y-DNA test. Today,, FTDNA and 23andme offer largely the same service. Remember that matching against the largest database possible is the key to success. Regardless of which service you used, you can expand your matching potential by uploading your results to Over the summer, the GEDMatch system did not accept new uploads since its system was overwhelmed by uploads from new AncestryDNA customers.

About a week ago GEDMatch began accepting uploads again. Please upload your results to today. Thanks,

Phil Goff

I received a copy of the will for Abner Goff (b. 1782 in Vermont - d. 1857 in Ohio).   You can find it along with my comments on my blog:
The will was lost in the Licking County (OH) courthouse fire in 1875 but was reprobated in 1891.   Found a new daughter, Sarah Goff.

About "Goff-Gough Families" / Request a Board for a new Goff or Gough family line
« Last post by ggfaAdmin on August 05, 2013, 08:37:51 PM »
Our vision is that the Main boards in this category will be for the earliest Goff/Gough ancestor in a family line.   You can see the example of "Anthony Goff (1656-1727) below.   Note that there is also a "child board" for "Abner Goff (1721-1808).   Abner was a grandson of Anthony through his son, Anthony, Jr.

To request a new Family Board, please send an email to  Please include the name of the ancstor, and as many key facts as possible, including birth date, place, spouse, and death.  If you are requesting a child board, please be sure to include which family group the ancestor belongs to.
