I have Winifred as the daughter of Thomas Van Reswick & Anne Wiseman, not Anne Carberry.

Which Nicholas Mills married Winifred Van Resnick on Oct. 15, 1775?

I have a Winifred Thomas marrying Nicholas Mills (1735-1785). If this is Winifred Van Resnick, then where did the "Thomas" come from? I have her parents as Mark Thomas & Winifred Abell.

Can anyone tell me who the siblings were for Winifred Van Resnick? Francine

You have the correct Nicholas Mills (1735-1785). He married first, Anastasia Gough between 1755 and 1757. Anastasia died in 1771. He married second, Winifred Van Reswick (who had been married first to Philip Greenwell who d. 1774) on 10/15/1775. All of the children of this Nicholas Mills were by Anastasia Gough--none by Winifred Van Reswick. Linda Reno

    Mark, you said:

"I have that Nicholas Mills IV, son of Nicholas Mills and Anastasia Gough, married Sarah Bickett on November 4, 1811 in Washington County, Ky."

Thank you, and I believe this was the same Sarah Bickett that also married Zachariah Riney 12 Feb 1824 Washington Co and was the daughter of William Bickett. Do you know who her mother was?

Did Nicholas IV, also marry a Mary Greenwell or is the record below incorrect?

    Name: Nicholas Mills
    Spouse: Mary Greenwell
Birth Place: St Mary S Count, MD
    Birth Date: 9 March 1769
    Parents: Nicholas Mills , Anastasia

No, Stephen Gough b. 1742 wasn't Anastasia's brother. He was the son of James Gough, Jr. and Priscilla Heard, but she and Stephen were first cousins since Anastasia's father, Stephen Gough and Stephen's father, James Gough, Jr. were brothers and the sons of James Gough (d. 1725).

The marriage of date for Nicholas Mills to Winifred, widow of Philip Greenwell is an exact date. From Fresco: "Nicholas Mills m. Winifred, widow of Philip Greenwell, 15 October 1775. Nicholas d. 1785, age 50 and Winifred was age 49. Ref, Chancery Po. 26:184, 185, 191." She also cites her sources as "Hodges' Card File" at MSA and "The Greenwell Family" by Charles and Laverne Fenwick.

Stephen Gough had inherited "Gough's Levels" from his father, James Gough (d. 1725) and devised this property to his son, Ignatius in his 1743 will along with "Gough's Conveniency". The last record I have of Ignatius is 1745, so I would guess that he died and Anastasia inherited the land. Nicholas Mills in his 1785 will devised these two pieces of property, previously owned by Stephen Gough, to his son, Ignatius Mills: "Gough's Level," 42 acres; "Gough's Conveniency," 48 acres.
