My memory has been jogged a bit and I had a great Aunt El and also great Aunt Lil who are obviously the Lillie M. Waller and Ella Waller who are in the family tree along with William Waller who was their brother and my grandfather. I thought El was married to the Clements but it was Lil. I never knew Aunt Lil but my Mom said she was the sweetest lady in the world and I know El was a very kind, loving lady. We are actually going to get this all together yet!!!! Love, Cecelia

I've been in touch with Joseph T., who says he has retired from the genealogy field but is still interested in my results, and with Sandy Massie, who is very willing to help and also wants to see my paper chart. I will be glad to send you a copy too, if you will provide a land postal address.
    >

    >
    > I told Joe and Sandy about my concern that no one has pursued Ann(e) Russell's background. My Below great-grandmother claimed that Ann's father fought at the Battle of Pt Pleasant and in the War of Independence and in skirmishes with Indians in Ohio afterwards. He could be one of the recognized "John Russells" and it would only be necessary to discover the connection.
    >
    > Your Gough genealogy enabled me to identify AT ONCE a small pencil letter preserved by my Below great-grandmother. It's a letter of condolence by Calistus H. Gough to his sister Elizabeth Jane regarding the recent death of their mother (i.e., Ann(e) Russell Gough). It was written from POW camp in Indianapolis. So I am going to say that her date of death must be ca. 1865. So here is my first contribution to genealogical science. I assume that the old Ann Russell info came from the census.
    >
    > One of my most treasured possessions is the Episcopalian prayer book that belonged to Elizabeth Jane. It is inscribed, "To Mrs D A Below from her Husband Dec 25th 1872." D A for "Dora Ann," the pet name which I am guessing is an amalgam of Dora for Isadore and Ann for Ann Russell her mother.
    >
    > I'm wondering how hard it would be to prove my great-grandmother's assertion that Isadore Gough was an officer at the Battle of New Orleans. I'm wondering whether you have found the graves of the sons of Gough brothers who went to Union County, and whether a headstone or Isadore Gough, if it has not crumbled into the earth, might provide information of Ann Russell.

    >
    > I did find three Russell's in the 1810 Washington Co, KY census, Robert, William and Thomas, but my guess based on it being one of these three, would be Thomas Russell. Robert Russell and the oldest female in his household were 45+ (bef 1765) but had no younger females in the household; William and his female, probably his wife were both in the 16/26 category (1784-1794) and Thomas had several children including the female 16/26 and he has his oldest female were both in the 45+ category. So based on this small finding, Thomas Russell would be the father of Anne Russell, at least until something more better comes along.
    >
    > The Isidore Gough - Anne Russell marriage is also in the Kingston and the McGee versions of Washington Co, KY marriage abstracts and none of them have any reference to Anne Russell's parents or guardians.
    >
    > I don't have anything on any the Russell wills but that is a possible place, since all three Russell's were alive in 1810, maybe they were alive when Anne married. I have nothing on these three men in my family file. Surely they were from MD.

They were married in Washington County, KY. I believe somewhere I saw a listing of Marion County. Marion was probably not formed until after Isadore and Ann left for Union County.

    > The County is bordered by Washington County (north), Boyle County (northeast), Casey County (southeast), Taylor County (south), LaRue County (southwest), Nelson County (northwest). Cities, Towns and Communities include Bradfordsville, Lebanon, Loretto, Raywick, Nerinx. Marion was formed from Washington County on January 25, 1834, and was named in honor of Gen. Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of the Revolutionary War who won fame for his military tactics against the British forces in the southern theater of operations. The county seat of Marion County is LEBANON.
