George LEE, 24, was in jail today charged with the axe murer of his stepfather, Otis SINGLETON, 44, at their farm home between Manilla and Leechville last night. The sheriff's office said SINGLETON was killed by a blow of an axe while he sat on the side of his bed. LEE refused to talk, officers said. Mrs. SINGLETON's and SINGLETON'S daughter, witnesses to the slaying had not been questioned today.

Youth, 20, admits killing stepfather
Blytheville, Ark., April 22-Ode SINGLETON, 55, was killed with an ax as he slept at his home near Manila, Ark. 20 miles east of here early today.
His stepson, George LANE, 21, confessed but claimed he killed his stepfather because he mistreated his mother, police said. He charged SINGLETON has mistreated his wife since they were married in St. Louis a year ago.
A 13-year-old dau. of SINGLETON notified police & LANE was arrested and brought to jail here.
