Notes - I believe that this Stephen is the son of Charles and Ann (Herbert) Gough I?
ST. Mary's Co., MD
9/21/1818: SMC Equity Ct., August Term, 1818. William Penn, admin. de bonis non of John Gough vs. John Leigh and Elizabeth, his wife; James Swann and Charlotte, his wife; Eleanor Tabbs; Elizabeth Tabbs; Charlotte Tabbs; Maria Tabbs; William M'Neale and Mary, his wife; and Ann Gough.
John Gough is dead; personal estate insufficient to pay his debts; defendents are heirs at law; bill to obtain a sale of real estate of sd. John. Robert Gough, Charles Gough, William Mc'Neale and Mary his wife, James Swann and Charlotte, his wife, and Ann Gough reside out of the state of Maryland. (National Intelligencer Newspaper Abstracts, 1818-1820).
I believe this is William Penn who married Clarissa Tarlton on March 7, 1809. Clarissa Tarlton had a brother named William Tarlton who previously had been the administrator of the estate of John Gough.
8/1811, 12/1811, 1/1813, 2/1813: William Tarlton, adm. of John Gough (Orphan Ct. Rec., Fenwick).
William and Clarissa Tarlton were the children of Bennet Tarlton and Judith Crawley.
Charlotte Tabbs and Maria Tabbs were the daughters of Benjamin Tabbs (d. 1813) and Eleanor "Nellie" Aisquith (d. 1811).
Mike, This really caught my eye as your last name is Gough. Maybe these families traveled together from St. Mary's Co. MD. It appears that Thomas is the Thomas Cralle, son of Thomas and Hannah Fox Kenner Cralle. John Gough died and left Ann his wife who is residing out side the state of MD in 1818. William Tarleton, Ann's brother, was admin. of the estate of John Gough. Thomas Crawley of St. Mary's Co., MD had a son Thomas that we don't know anything about. He could be the Thomas you are looking for. That would be the two generations. Hope this helps, Nancy

At long last....
3/4/1833: Joseph Leigh, Commission of Partition on the real estate of John Gough, dec'd. John Gough died in 1820 seized of 216 acres of "Elizabeth Manor" leaving his heirs (brothers and sisters): Robert Gough, Charles Gough, Charlotte Swaim (Swann?) wife of James, Nathan Gough, and Elizabeth Leigh.
Nathan Gough sold his interest in the property to Benjamin Tabbs who has since died, leaving his widow, Eleanor and three children: Charlotte Tabbs who has intermarried with H. N. Kirk, Elizabeth Tabbs, and Maria Tabbs.
Elizabeth Leigh has also died leaving heirs: Joseph Leigh, Eliza who intermarried with William Gill, John Leigh, and Sally B. Leigh.
Charles Gough, Robert Gough, and James Swaim (Swann?) and wife all live outside of Maryland

This family's going to tie into the family of Charles Gough and Ann Herbert--I just don't know how yet.
23 Jul 1750: Charles Gough leased 120-acres of St. Inigoes Manor. The lease for three lives, Charles Gough, Ann Gough his wife and George Gough his son. . (Courtesy, Pete Himmelheber).
John Gough bought land (Elizabeth Manor 216-a) that belonged to William Herbert (d 1801-1804) whose will decreed that it be sold .
Alienations say the sellor (Executor) was Stephen Gough. Deed Abstracts say it was Thomas Gough.
