They began "bootlegging" (selling liquor) out the back door so he shut them down. Same page as Dr Keeton.

? This story was told by Jess' grandson (James Patrick White) and son (William Franklin White). Someone insulted Jess' wife, Essie and Jess took offense. The man stabbed Jess who then knocked him out cold.
1973, 7 Nov The day he died he had shoed a horse. Later he was cleaning the attic and accidentaly ignited an old powder horn that belonged to his father and received burns. He then had his 2nd heart attack and later died at the hospital.

JESSE FRANKLIN WHITE - Services for Jesse Franklin White were Friday at the Scotts Hill Pentecostal [son William says they were in the Methodist Church] Church with the Rev. J. W. Hanna and the Rev. E. J. Grimsley officiating. Burial was in the Methodist Cemetery with Scotts Hill Funeral Home in charge. Mr. White, who was 88, died Wednesday morning at the Lexington Hospital after a long illness. He was a retired law officer, blacksmith and merchant. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Essie Johnson White of Scotts Hill, three sons, Lt. Ernest White, U. S. Navy retired of Jackson, Earl White of Milan, Ill., and S. Sgt. William F. White with the U. S. Air Force in Germany; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Meals of Humboldt; a brother, Walter White of Forrest Park, Ga.; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Scotts Hill - Services for Jesse Franklin White, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Scotts Hill Pentecostal Church with the Rev. J. W. Hanna and the Rev. E. J. Grensley officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery with Scotts Hill Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. White died Wednesday morning at the Lexington-Henderson Co., Hospital after a long illness.
He was a retired law officer, blacksmith and merchant.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
Surviving are his widow Mrs. Essie Johnson White of Scotts Hill; 3 sons, Lt. Ernest White, U.S. Navy retired of Jackson; Earl White of Milan, IL and S. Sgt. William F. White with the U.S. Air Force in Germany; a daughter Mrs. Ethel Meals of Humboldt; a brother, Walter White of Forrest Park, GA; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Jess was a Decatur Co., deputy sheriff and at one time was a warden at Ft. Pillow prison, later he worked there again and was a guard. He had a convict who worked the farm for him.
Re the general store picture. Dr. Keeton's office was upstairs and Dr. Keeton moved from Scotts Hill following the 1917 tornado & Jess was in Washington State in 1930 so he had to own the store in Medina between 1917-1930.
