      Ethel White Meals, age 95 of Humboldt, TN, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012.

      Ethel was born on August 11, 1916 in Scotts Hill, TN and attended school in Medina, TN. She was married to William Lewis Meals who preceded her in death. Ethel was a licensed practical nurse in Humboldt at St. Mary's Hospital, and at Crenshaw Clinic for seventeen years.

      She is survived by a daughter, Carol Meals Harrington of Jackson, TN and a son, Thomas Andrew Meals of Virginia Beach, VA. She is also survived by grandsons, Robert Lee Harrington, Jr. (Linda) of Memphis, TN, Andrew Lewis Harrington (Angela) of Dyersburg, TN and Major Clayton Douglas Meals (Trish) of Fort Benning, GA; granddaughters, Holly Harrington Duncan (Glenn) of Walnut, CA and Andrea Meals Dukes (Allen) of Lynchburg, VA. She leaves nine great-grandchildren.

      Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Franklin White and Artie Goff Townsend, and two brothers, Ernest L. White and Earl White.

      She is also survived by half sister, Marie T. Young of Savannah, TN and half brother, William F. White of Reagan, TN.

      Service will be July 11, 2012 at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home in Humboldt. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt.

      In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration for memorials be made to: The Pat Summitt Foundation for Alzheimer's, P. O. Box 440255, Nashville, TN 37244 and/or The First United Methodist Church, 200 North 12th Ave., Humboldt, TN 38343.

      The family would like to thank the staff of Morningside of Jackson and Hospice of West Tennessee for their kind and caring service.

      Ethel talked about her trip to Washington (they were there for the 1930 census). They slept in the car and cooked by the side of the road.

      She and Lewis were chaperoning for Lewis' sister Hulda nad ended up getting married. Lewis was afraid to ask Jesse for Ethel's hand in marriage. They didn't tell anyone about the marriage for a bit.
