Mary Catherine (Mattingly) Hess, 93, of Evansville passed away Monday April 28, 2014 at Deaconess Gateway Medical Center. She was born April 12, 1921 in Evansville to Joseph Archibald and Caroline (Wells) Mattingly.
Mary Catherine was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved traveling with her family attending major league baseball games and appreciated her grandchildren who cared for her.
Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, John Hess in December 2001and daughter, Mary Jayne Rubsam in April 2009.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Hess (Frances) of Crawfordsville, IN; daughters, Ellen Knight (Dudley) of Eddyville, KY and Carole Dixon (Bob) of Evansville; son-in-law, Richard Rubsam; grandchildren, Chad Hess, Kerrie McCluskey, Hollie Vencel, John, Jim, Joseph and Jacob Knight, Roxie Viney, Brad Rubsam, Kathleen Byers, Adeline Chinn and Julie Lovell-Deken; 22 great grandchildren; brother, Eugene Mattingly of Arlington, VA; sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Smith Fort Worth, TX and Mary Theresa Mangus of Louisville, KY and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3:00 - 7:00 pm, Friday May 2, 2014 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with a memorial service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 - 10:00 am Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 600 Herndon Dr., Evansville, IN 47711.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am Saturday May 3, 2014 at the church with Fr. Jeff Read.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
