  • Notes
    • William Patrick Nalin, age 90 of Evansville, IN, passed away on Sunday (May 5, 2019) surrounded by his family.

Bill was born in Jasper, Indiana on June 1, 1928 to Cletus P. and Mildred B. (Burch) Nalin. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later settled in Evansville, Indiana to raise his family. He was an executive at Kuester's Hardware for over 30 years, joined there over the years by numerous members of his family including his grandchildren.

He had a reputation for being tough, and he was an astute businessman, but he was also generous with a good sense of humor. And an unexpected sense of whimsy, always singing along with Christmas music, all year long. For years his house served as a clubhouse for his grandchildren, where they gathered after school, cumulatively spending hours deciphering Bill's handwritten notes. He was quick to help and a source of inspiration and wisdom, as well as practical advice that he shared freely.

Bill had a full and active social life - he seemingly knew everyone, or at least every family. Family ties were important to him and over the course of generations, he built and maintained strong connections in the community. He was a devoted member of Christ the King parish for many years and served the parish in whatever ways he could.

Generous and kind, Bill was a good friend, a faithful Catholic and the cornerstone of his family.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Hazel (Williams), his brother Robert Nalin and his sister Shirley Wigand. He is survived by his five children; Kathleen (Lemmie) Killough, Janet (Brodrick) Hawn, Mary DeBard, Timothy (Doris) Nalin and Michael (Susan) Nalin; and his longtime companion, Marian Kost, fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Anthony) Wigand, Marge Martin and Janice (Tom) Niehaus; sister in law, Maureen Nalin; and one brother, Tom (LaDonna) Nalin.

Visitation will be held 5:00 -7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 10:00 am to 10:30 am Thursday, May 9, 2019 at Annunciation Catholic Church, Christ the King Campus, 3101 Bayard Park Drive, Evansville, IN 47714. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am at the church with Father Alex Zenthoefer officiating.

Entombment will be at St. Joseph Mausoleum where the retired Veterans will conduct military rites.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Catholic Church, Christ the King Campus, 3101 Bayard Park Drive, Evansville, IN 47714 or St. Vincent DePaul, 809 N. Lafayette Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47711.
