      > This particular William is believed to be the son of Benedict Rhodes by an unknown first wife. Since Benedict married Eleanor Medley in 1801 in Kentucky and William was born in D.C. it is believed that he and perhaps his brother Lucien are both from the same unknown wife.

      > The only other explanation is that he and Eleanor had a couple of kids out of wedlock before their marriage - which of course is a possibility. I CAN place Eleanor in Washington in 1800. She and her parents and siblings were on their way to Kentucky when they made a pit stop at Holy Trinity Church for some baptisms.

But in order to prove that there were indeed three Hillarys in this time period - one in washington, one in Nelson County and mine in Washington county, I've been forced to prove more information about Hillary H. in Washington and hence the interest in William. I also think in the long run sorting the Williams will make tracking the genealogy of the Rhodes family as a whole much easier.

In fact, I am just finishing with transcribing the first 12 pages of the pension application of his wife Rebecca. It's all that HQ has online although footnote.com would seem to indicate that the full pension is about 60 pages long. However, the first 12 pages makes some relationships quite clear. If you have any need of that when I get done, I would be more than happy to forward them to you.
