Notes - Note that in 1870 he's with Martha J. (GOFF) age 27. In 1880 he's with Sarah M. age 33. Don't know if these are the same person. I have put the children born prior to marriage with Amanda with Martha. Buried in Sardis Cem http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/henderson/cemeteries/sardis.txt is:
Singleton, Martha Jane, June 3, 1842-Nov. 22, 1871, "Wife of J. P. Singleton"
While he later also married an Amanda (ROBINS), this is not James B. SINGLETON who married Amanda GOFF, d/of Lewis GOFF
So, he probably married in 1866 Margaret GOUGH, 2) Martha Jane who died 1871 and then 3) Sarah M. and last Amanda ROBINS

HARDIN COUNTY INDEX TO MARRIAGES by Albert Brown.
James P. Singleton married Amanda E. Robins, 1/30/1881. Book 2 page 579.
------
Martha GOFF's sister, Amanda married Lovick Harvey CLIMER in 1865. Since James was b. ca 1858 and William ca 1861, they must be from a previous marriage of Harvey's.

http://www.tngenweb.org/henderson/pension_papers_Griswell.htm Pension Records of Thomas J. Griswell.
23 Sept 1867, Decatur County,
5) Same day and same place - Albert G. Vetetoe and James P. Singleton, ages 23 and 22, citizens of the 11th and 12th District of Henderson County and that they also belonged to Company K in the 7th Regiment of Tennessee Calvary and that they were well acquainted there with Thomas J. Griswell and that he did volunteer on or about the 10th day of January 1864 in Union City, TN and that they saw him dead in the Andersonville prison. It goes on to say that "that the Company in which he belonged was distributed into the other Companies of Said Regiment and the said Thomas was attached to Company C in said Reg't at the time of his death. Albert J. Vetetoe signed his name and James Singelton made his mark.
34) 8 August 1879 - War Department, Pension #238.209 - that Albert J. Vetetoe was a pvt. in Co. M, 7th Regiment, Tenn. Cavalry and on the rolls of Jany and Feby 1864, he is reported present. Roll of Co. C., same Regt., (to which transferred) for Mch & April 1865 reports him present with remark Captured Mch 24" 64, Exchanged & received 2 months pay at Annapolis. Roll of Co. K same Regt. for Jany & Feby 1864 reports James P. Singleton, pvt. present - Roll for Mch & April 1864 and return for Mch 1864, not on file. On the Return of the 1" A. C. for Mch. 1864. The following remarks appear - 7th Tenn Cav surrendered to Gen'l Forrest at Union City, Tenn on the 24th of March 1864. The records on file in this office do not show that any fighting had been done by Hawkins Command before the surrender. Singleton was mustered out of service on det. M.O.R. June 16 1865 at Camp Chase Ohio with remark Captured by the enemy at Union City, Tenn, Mch 24"64 (Co. and regt'l books not on file)
If SINGLETON saw GRISWELL at Andersonville, he was there 9 Aug 1864 (my Isaac DAVENPORT was there March 1864- March 1865 so he would have been there too.)

SINGLETON - GAWF / GOFF - MIDDLETON - POOL

Trying to find out if Leonard SINGLETON that is on 1850 census of Hamilton co, TN is same person listed on 1860 Henderson Co, TN census. Leonard SINGLETON is listed in 1850 census of Hamilton co, age 16, living with James SINGLETON and Susan, both born in NC.
There is a Leonard SINGLETON that appears in 1860 12th district of Henderson Co living with wife Marilda (GAWF) and children Robert H, Mary A, and probably a niece Rebecca age 20. Next door is SterlingSINGLETON, age 41, wife Susannah, daughter Sarah. Rebecca according to other census is Sterling SINGLETON's daughter.
Leonard SINGLETON enlisted in 7th regiment TN Union Calvary Co K. on Sept 1, 1863, age 27. He died in Annapolis MD on Dec 13, 1864. There was also a James P. SINGLETON , age 19, born Hamilton Co, TN that enlisted the same day as Leonard SINGLETON, mustered out on 08/09/1865.
Leonard SINGLETON's wife Marilda remarried to a Joshua POOL in 1868.
Guardianship of Leonard's children was given to Edmond GAWF (GOFF), Marilda's father in 1869.
Leonard SINGLETON and Marilda GAWF (GOFF) SINGLETON's children are: Robert H, b:oct 9, 1856, (wife Mary); Mary A, b: June 4, 1859 and James, b. Feb 28, 1863.(I believe this James could be my G grandfather that married Sallie MIDDLETON)
I believe this Leonard SINGLETON, born abt: 1835 may be the same Leonard SINGLETON, from Hamilton Co, Tn . Father possibly being a James SINGLETON and mother Susan.
- Note that in 1870 he's with Martha J.
