Notes - Crossing the Dark River; Henderson County, Tennessee, Obituaries; 1827-1950 p. 495 Goff, J. R. (The Lexington Progres, January 14, 1944) Dies Suddenly: the entire town was grieved and shocked January 11th, 1944, when the news went out that Dr. J. F. Goff had died suddenly at his home on South Main Street. Dr. Goff who had been overworked, had been kept indoors for a few days because of an attack of flu. He was able to see the patients the night before who had called at his home. Lexington neer had a more popular citizen and physician than Dr. Goff. He made friends of all with whom he came in contact and as a physician was well liked by all who secured his services. He had lived here all of his life and practiced medicine here after his return from World War No. 1.
Dr. Goff was 59 years old and was the son of the late George W. Goff, who died several years ago, and Mrs. Goff who yet lives and makes her home with her children. In May 1920 he ws married to Miss Jewel Dennison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Dennison, and to this union were born two children, Cpt. Richard Goff of the Army, and Miss Maxileen Goff. He is survived by four brothers, G. W. Goff, Jr., Ben and W. M. Goff, or Lexington, and Hobart Goff of Parsons. A sister, Mrs. Jap Petty died a few years ago. Rev. Walter Warmath conducted the funeral services with interment at Lexington Cemetery.
