      Bernard L. "Bernie" Wathen, 93, of Evansville passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Deaconess Hospital. Bernie was born on May 22, 1922 in Morganfield, Ky to the late John B. and Mary (Luckett) Wathen.
      Bernie was a World War II Veteran, serving three years in the South Pacific with the 27th Infantry Division, G Company, 106th Infantry as a Sergeant. He was also a member of the famous "Stoeckley's Night Raiders". He was a graduate of Lockyears Business College and he also attended the University of Evansville. He was a lifetime member of the Evansville Personnel Association and was a past president. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Bernie was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, a member of the Men's Club, Knights of Columbus, Holy Father Council 7544, and a 4th degree member of Monsignor Sprigler Assembly. Bernie retired from Ball Plastics (formerly Kent Plastics) after serving 30 years as the Personnel Director, and from Droste's Jewelry Shoppe for 20 years. He flew to Washington D.C. on the May 2015 Honor Flight to be honored by his country.
      In addition to his parents, Bernie is also preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Dowd) Wathen, who passed away in 1992, and his brother, James L. Wathen in 1997.
      He is survived by his sons; Stephen L.Wathen of Henderson, Ky, John B. Wathen of Evansville, his daughter, Ellen M. Wathen of Evansville, his grandchildren; Rebecca Skaggs (Clay), Joseph Wathen, Doug Wathen (Mallory), Christopher Wathen, several great grandchildren, sisters; Betty Stumpf, Eddmarie Padgett, his brother, Thomas Wathen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
      Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714, with a memorial service at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 am until service time at the church on Saturday, January, 30, 2016.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Annunciation Parish at Christ the King, 3010 Chandler Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with Father Alex Zenthoefer officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Parish at Christ the King, 3010 Chandler Ave., Evansville, IN, 47714, or your favorite charity .
      Bernie's family would like to thank the Oncology and Pulmonary Unit and the staffs at Deaconess Hospital, Bell Oaks Terrace and Golden Living Center, Woodlands, in Newburgh.
