Found more on the family of Thomas Joseph Gough in the KY and IN vital records, also on the Browning obit site. From the census records and I am saying this cautiously, it looks like Donald Joseph Gough was the son of Orville Stephen Gough b. 1897 who is the son of Francis L Gough b. 1873, son of Stephen Gough b. 1829 in KY. If this is so, who is Stephen Gough b. 1829 KY, not in KY in1850!

Hi Mike,
Good to hear from you. I am glad you have a better feeling about your Gough connection. Joe Gough was so sure they weren't connected that I had to stand down on that one.
Looking at a note, Somewhere I printed a report that Ignatius did have a son named Stephen Gough b. 1831 in KY.
I don't have the source for this, but it's on the report/printout. And Ignatius has brothers Benjamin b. 1786, Joseph b. 1792 and John. b.1805.
(and sisters if you want that.)
Thanks for all that forwarding. I'm printing it now. Good reading.

Thomas Gough, Barr Township Farmer Dead
Thomas Gough, age fifty -one years, the assessor of Barr township, died Thursday morning about 10 o'clock at his home a mile and a half northeast of Montgomery. A stroke of paralysis which he received about six weeks ago is said to have been the direct cause of his death although he had suffered from stomach trouble for some time previous. In 1880, Mr. Gough married Margaret Ann McAtee. No children were born to the union, so three children were adopted. They are Mrs. Virgil Grannan of Montgomery, Mrs. Elmer Love of Cannelburg and Miss Nellie Brown who lives at the Gough home. He was a member of the Catholic church and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus lodge of Loogootee. His body will be buried in St. Mary's cemetery in Barr township Saturday morning.
Mr. Gough was one of Barr township's best known and most influential citizens. For a number of years he had been the assessor of Barr township and his official work had been well done. He was the township assessor at the time of his death. Auditor Nugent will likely appoint Mr. Gough's successor.
The deceased leaves four brothers and three sisters. They are Charles of Loogootee, James, Joseph and Frank Gough, and Mrs. Edward Laurel, Mrs. Frank Mattlingly of Barr township and Mrs. Albert McAtee of this city.

Pretty much that entire branch died in Indiana in Daviess County
There is only one James Francis which is listed in the Barr Township
Daviess County census for this year range who is even close to the correct age.
I have a copy of the land grant that shows the father of of Stephen T. Gough (Ignatius Gough) getting land in 1820
Also if you'd like any of the census files or anything I have mentioned in here I can gladly email you a copy.
I think I'm going to take a trip to Indiana to visit some of these cemeteries I might come back with pictures.

If he is buried in Washington County, that is only about three counties over from me and I might have to make a field trip. I saw somewhere where you had asked for pictures of the head stones for something concerning DAR. Did you ever happen to get them? Thanks, Josh

Do know there is still a burial plot at St. Mary's Catholic Church cemetery for me if I wanted to use it. It was originally bought for my Dad by his father/mother, my grandparents. Also one at St. Joseph's in Bramble, IN where Stephen and Lucy are buried. They bought it for me when I was adopted in (I believe) 1971.
